It is with great pleasure that I express my support and enthusiasm for the project. It is never too young to start learning to be a good citizen. Learning the lessons about what it means to belong to a community starts in our homes, where we learn to care and share. We depend on each other for friendship. We learn from each other, inside the classroom or on the playing field. Respect for the rights of others and a tolerance of their viewpoint that is born of understanding and empathy are necessary qualities, if a number of human beings are to live together.
I am convinced that the project has great potential to make all those involved more aware of these old-fashioned truths. The use of a modern tool of communication like the Internet to disseminate these ideas is very impressive.
In this instance, it will be used to forge closer links between Ireland and Britain, as well as between individuals involved in the project.
It is my wish that all those involved in this project will find it stimulating and developmental.
